As the civilian drone manufacturing industry matures, the quality and performance of related products have been improved, and the price has become more reasonable, which makes the application of drones in government affairs such as fire rescue, traffic management, and environmental monitoring more common. In my country, local government departments are actively purchasing drones to strengthen management and law enforcement capabilities and improve work efficiency.

In June 2018, the Elevated Brigade of the Changzhou Traffic Police Detachment stated at a press conference that drones have been used on the city’s elevated roads to assist in the investigation of traffic violations, mainly capturing and answering phone calls, pressing lines, not wearing seat belts, trucks entering restricted areas, Parking violations etc. Within 2 weeks of enabling drone capture, more than 100 traffic violations were captured.

During the National Day holiday in 2018, the Sichuan Chengdu Highway Traffic Police carried out high-speed traffic regulation work, using drones and other equipment. From October 6th, the Chengdu traffic police deployed police forces on city-controlled expressways such as the Ring Expressway, Chengguan Expressway, Chengwenqiong Expressway, and Chengpeng Expressway, and used drones to capture illegal behaviors occupying emergency lanes.

In February 2019, due to the large number of tourists during the Spring Festival, in order to better manage traffic order and ensure traffic safety, the Traffic Police Corps of the Hainan Public Security Department used drones to carry out aerial patrols and law enforcement, extending the coverage of law enforcement. A total of 130 traffic violations were captured. In addition, traffic police departments in Shanghai, Fujian, Shandong, Shaanxi and other provinces and cities have also used drones to assist traffic law enforcement.

In the face of more and more "air traffic police", many netizens said that the application of new technologies such as drones not only reflects the traffic management department's determination to innovate and seek change, but also to put new technologies and products into practice. In the application, traffic safety and order are maintained, and it also reflects the increasing popularity and positive value of technological products such as drones.

Some netizens also believe that UAV-assisted law enforcement is indeed helpful to traffic management and is conducive to improving the work efficiency of traffic control departments. However, it cannot be ignored that UAVs may also involve security, privacy and other issues in the process of law enforcement. If the drone captures personal privacy and is leaked, or if the drone suddenly loses control while performing a mission, causing it to fall and hurt people, how to determine responsibility?

The different opinions of netizens have their reasons. At present, whether it is applied to traffic management or other fields, privacy and security issues faced by drone products are common. Only relatively speaking, when used as a tool for law enforcement, drones receive greater attention and responsibilities.
